San Diego Wedding Insider - Bridesmaid Planning 101

You have been especially selected by the bride to be an honored member of her wedding party as well as her special assistant on the most cherished day of her life!

The San Diego Wedding Insider knows how important this role can be, so in helping you accomplish your designated tasks we’ve gathered priceless and creative information that will be of great use on your path to becoming the perfect Bridesmaid.

San Diego Wedding - Bridesmaid 101 - Bachelorette Planning Alternatives

Bachelorette Party Alternatives...

Not all brides want to have full-on bachelorette party thrown for her. The idea of a bachelorette party brings to mind bar hopping, drinking, and scantily clad men all over the bride-to-be, which for some can be a bit of a turn-off. But there’s no way you’re going to let the bride get away with not celebrating it all, so here are a few ideas of some alternatives to the traditional bachelorette party:

Spa Day
Take the bride and all the bridesmaid off for a spa day a few days before the wedding. You can all relax and enjoy a little bit of downtime while getting manicures and pedicures to pretty up your hands and feet.

Girls Only Luncheon
Take the bride to her favorite lunch spot for a little girls only luncheon before everything starts really getting together. It’ll be a nice way for her to enjoy some quality time with her friends and family.

Scavenger Hunt
Divide into teams (bridal party vs. guests?) and have a little scavenger hunt. It can be just a local hunt, or be extra creative with a city-wide hunt with rules such as “you can’t buy anything, and you can’t get anything from someone’s house”.

Ferry Boat Cruise
Take all of the girls downtown to ride the ferry over to Coronado for an evening. Take the ferry back for a beautiful view of the city and harbor.

Do anything fun!
Get together and go bowling; have a movie night – show movies with hot actors in the main roles; get together for cocktails at the Maid of Honor’s house; go to Belmont Park and ride the roller coaster and play carnival games; anything else that will help you, your bridal party, and your friends relax and enjoy a little time together before the wedding day!

San Diego Wedding - Bridesmaid 101 - Bridesmaid Duties Organized

Organize the Duties...

Most brides will have more than one bridesmaid in her wedding and all of the bridesmaid will want to help out with the aspects of the wedding, but having more than one person helping out can start to get confusing after awhile. You can get a little bit more organized by meeting with all of the bridesmaids and assigning and sharing duties and responsibilities with all of them.

Find each bridesmaid’s strength and have her help out with different areas of the wedding. Some duties might be good for all of the bridesmaids (such as helping to put together the favors and helping with the decorations) and other things might be good to assign to one or two bridesmaids (such as having a bridesmaid create the table numbers, come up with a “custom cocktail” to be featured at the reception, helping to address envelopes, or to make a groom’s cake).

Dividing up the tasks among the bridesmaids will help everyone know who’s doing what and will help everyone be organized and be on task.

San Diego Wedding - Bridesmaid 101 - Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Emergency Bridal Kits...

One of the bridesmaids should put together a little “Wedding Day Emergency Bridal Kit” with a few essentials that the bride may need on the wedding day.

Some ideas for what to put in the kit:
· disposable toothbrush (such as ReadyBrush at Rite Aid or Walgreens)
· breath mints
· spot remover
· band-aids
· shout spot cleaning wipes
· pressed powder
· tampons
· a needle and thread kit
· nail file
· straws (so the bride can drink without messing up her lipstick)
· brush or comb
· tissues
· lint brush
· eye drops
· headache medicine (Aspirin or Tylenol)
· pepto-bismal or antacids
· moist towelettes

Have one of the maid of honor or bridesmaids bring this along and stash somewhere so the bride doesn’t have to worry about it.
