Having children at your wedding can create extra stress. Create a children's lounge at your reception. Include books, games, toys and hire a couple of babysitters. The children will be so busy having fun that you won't even notice they're there. And, their parents will be able to enjoy the wedding without the hassle of chasing the kids.

Budget Ideas for Your Wedding
The cost of a wedding can quickly skyrocket out of budget when brides and grooms shoot for the "perfect" wedding, no matter the cost. For those of you who have to keep an eye on the pocketbook and are afraid of your budget getting out of control, here are some simple ideas and tips for keeping costs down on your wedding day.

  • Midweek or Sunday affair: Saturday is generally a much more expensive day to get married. Consider a midweek, Sunday or even Saturday morning ceremony and reception to help cut costs.
  • Limit the decorations: Flowers and decor can really start to eat into your budget. A few ideas to help curb this would be either pick a really beautiful location (perhaps outdoors?) that doesn't need any extra decor. Flowers can be kept to a minimium - perhaps you'll only use them for your bouquets and forgo any other flower decorations. Another way to cut the flower costs is to use flowers in season.
  • Keep centerpieces simple: floating candles, edible fruits, plants or other items that can do double duty as favors.
  • Invitations and other announcements: Make them yourself!
  • Reception dining options: You can have an appetizer only reception including cake, afternoon tea, morning brunch, or even a buffet instead of a sit down dinner. Minimizing your guest list will also keep the head count down, as caterers will charge you per person ahead of time.
  • Photography: Photographers charge on an hourly rate, so book one for your formal photos and your ceremony. For the reception, get disposable cameras for every table and ask your guests to take photos of all aspects of the reception. Have a drop off basket near the door to let your guests know where they can drop off the used up cameras. Also encourage your friends and families to bring along their digital cameras and upload the snapshots to a public web site such as Flickr or SmugMug.

Creative Locations - A Museum Wedding

Are you searching for a ceremony or reception location that's a bit different from the run of the mill locations that you've seen advertised? Consider holding your wedding at one of San Diego's local museums. With such possible perks as viewing what's on display at the museum, guided tours for your guests and elegant settings and views, a museum location may be the perfect spot for your wedding.

Here are some locations to consider when choosing your wedding museum location, along with website information:

Creative Lighting Schemes
Think of using different colored lights (not just the standard white lights used at most weddings) to give your reception and wedding an extra kick of color. Some other easy ways to incorporate color into the mix is to use colored chinese lanterns in addition to strings of light. You can also create your own lumanaries with different colored paper bags for another lighting effect. Another idea is to hire a local company to help set up a lightening scheme with colored spotlights and more for your reception.

Outdoor Wedding Location Idea

Queen Califia's Magical Circle
In Escondido, CA, just north of San Diego, lies Kit Carson Park. Kit Carson Park features the Queen Califia's Magical Circle, a sculpture garden created by French artist Niki de Saint Phalle. The garden features nine large-scale sculptures, a circular "snake wall" and maze entryway, sculpturally integrated bench seating, and native shrubs and trees planted within the interior plaza and along the outer perimeter. The garden is within a 12-acre natural habitat in the Iris Sankey Arboretum.
