It seems we all want to do our part to help the environment, so it would make sense to want to give back to Mother Earth on your special day. We at San Diego Wedding Insider are committed to our part in helping in the environment, so we've managed to come up with a few ideas to help make your wedding more "green".
Instead of purchasing the traditional gown made of satin and silk, you could opt to have a gown made in hemp fabric or other easy on the earth fabrics. Many other brides have opted to recycle their mother's wedding dresses, or shop for vintage ones in their local thrift store. Either of these options will help the earth because it will cut down on the number of chemicals and fuels used to make the dress and cutback on labor overseas.
When planning the reception menu, you could talk to the caterer about options for using only organic food that is grown locally by farmers. This not only assures that you will be serving delicious non-chemically enhanced food, but you will also be contributing to your community by buying it locally. You could also ask the caterer to donate any leftovers to the local food shelter for the homeless.
Most couples tend to give away candy as their favors, you could look for a more eco friendly candy that many local grocery stores now offer. If you prefer to give candles away you could give away the many varieties of soy candles that smell just as good as the paraffin and beeswax ones. Not too mention they burn cooler and longer. Other options would be to give away flower and veggie seed packets, bamboo, handmade paper embedded with flowers, organic tea packets or in lieu of favors you could donate the money to a local charity. The possibilities are endless and Mother Earth will love you for it. |
